Orchestra Concert at UW-Stevens Point
The University Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The performance in Michelsen Hall of the Fine Arts Center is part of the Music Scholarship Series. Admission is $6 for the general public, $3 for senior citizens, $2 for youth and free the day of the concert for students with UWSP IDs. Tickets are available at the UWSP Box Office, Room 103A University Center, 715-346-4100 or 800-838-3378, online at <https://tickets.uwsp.edu/Wt3/>, or at the door if the concert is not sold out in advance.
The program will include "Overture to Italian Girl in Algiers" by Gioacchino Rossini, Dvorak�s "Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in B minor, op. 104" with cello soloist Lawrence Leviton, and "Les Preludes" by Franz Liszt. Patrick Miles, professor of horn and director of orchestral activities, will conduct the orchestra.
Leviton is an associate professor of cello and a Suzuki specialist at UWSP. He has been an active clinician throughout the country as well as a frequent performer on Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR). He has appeared with the orchestras of the Aspen Music Festival, the Joffrey Ballet, and the Chicago Chamber Orchestra where he was the co-principal cellist. He is currently principal cellist with the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra.
Miles is currently music director for the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra and the Green Bay Civic Symphony and appears frequently as a guest conductor for the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra. As a hornist, Miles has performed with a number of orchestras and is currently the Wisconsin area representative for the International Horn Society. He is a co-author of "Teaching Brass: A Resource Manual" published by McGraw-Hill.
