Faculty recital rescheduled due to weather

Bob Kase, professor of music and chair of the department of music at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and Brian Martz, associate professor of music at UWSP, will perform in a faculty recital on Wednesday, March 1 (postponed from February 16 due to weather).

The event will be held in Michelsen Hall of the Noel Fine Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. and is part of the Music Department Scholarship Series. Admission will be $6.75 for the general public, $3.75 for senior citizens, $2.75 for youth and free the day of the concert for students with UWSP IDs. Tickets are available at the UWSP Box Office, Room 103A University Center, (715) 346-4100 or (800) 838-3378 or at the door if the concert is not sold out in advance.

The program will include "Divertimento for Trumpet, Trombone, and Piano" by Boris Blacher, "Concerto for Trumpet" by Giuseppi Tartini, "Sonata in F minor" by Georg Philipp Telemann, "Legende for Trumpet and Piano" by Georges Enesco, and "Economy Band- Five Pieces for Trumpet, Trombone, and Percussion" by David Van Vactor. Kase and Martz will be accompanied on piano by Michael Keller, professor of music at UWSP; Lily Brissman, instructor at the Wausau Conservatory of Music, and Hi Young Hong. Robert Rosen, associate professor of music at UWSP, will assist on percussion.

Kase has a broad background as a performer, educator and composer. As a soloist he has performed with jazz and classical ensembles in Sweden, Norway, England, Germany, France, Russia, Switzerland, Canada and across the United States. He has played for more than 200 recordings including four solo jazz albums with his own quintet. Kase also has served as a clinician and conductor across the country and published a variety of works including musical selections, method books and ensemble literature.

Martz is currently the principal trombonist with the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra. As a jazz musician he has toured with Henry Mancini, Johnny Mathis, Glen Campbell and others. Martz was also successful as a freelance trombonist in the Indianapolis area, playing shows and working in commercial recording studios. As a classical musician he has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra of Per� in Lima, Per�, and with community orchestras in Indianapolis, Bloomington, Ind., and Wausau.
