Alyssa Brown, Wisconsin Rapids, a senior majoring in elementary education and Spanish at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, has received a $200 Irene Anderson Scholarship to study abroad through UWSP�s International Programs.

The scholarship is named for the late Irene Anderson of Park Ridge. Anderson, who passed away in 1990, bequeathed money to the Department of Foreign Languages in appreciation of her experiences there as a nontraditional student.

Brown, the daughter of Douglas and Terrie Brown, is a 2001 graduate of Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids. At UWSP she has received both high academic honors and the University Leadership Award. She is president of the Student Alliance for Latino Studies and Advancement and is a member of the Black Student Union. She also tutors with the Portage County Literacy Council.
