Hmong and South East Asian American Club holds conference

The Hmong and South East Asian American Club (HaSEAAC) at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will hold their annual conference on Saturday, February 18.

The 2006 conference, "Empowering Youth: the Next Generation," will be held in the Laird Room of the Dreyfus University Center (DUC) from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The event, including lunch, will be open to the public free of charge. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

Speakers at the conference will include Bryan Thao Worra, Mitch Fisher, Yauo Yang, and Ka Vang. The conference will focus on inspiring and educating high school and junior high school students. The speakers will provide information on higher education and what it has to offer.

The HaSEAAC will also award scholarships to two graduating seniors who attend all workshops and complete a scholarship form.

The conference will be followed by a Masquerade Dance held in the Alumni Room of the DUC from 7 p.m. until midnight. Tickets are $7 for singles in advance or $8 at the door and $12 for couples in advance or $15 at the door. Formal attire and masks are required. Masks will be available for purchase at the event.
