Gaelic Storm performs at UW-Stevens Point

Gaelic Storm, the famed Celtic band, will perform at 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 10, at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

The event, sponsored by Centertainment Productions, will be held in the Laird Room of the University Center (UC). Tickets are on sale through the UWSP Box Office, Room 103A University Center, 715-346-4100 or 800-838-3378, online at https://tickets.uwsp.edu/Wt3/, or at the door if the concert is not sold out in advance. Advance tickets are $12 for the public and $8 for UWSP students. Tickets purchased the day of the event will be $15 for the public and $12 for UWSP students.

Since appearing and performing in the blockbuster movie and soundtrack, "Titanic," Gaelic Storm has released three more CDs, "Herding Cats" and "Tree," a mixture of Irish classics combined with originals from the band, and "Special Reserve." The last CD is a compilation of some of their favorites plus three new songs.

For the past several years, the band has been playing at more than 100 venues each year, including many college campuses. They have drawn massive crowds at Milwaukees Irish Fest, Celtic Fest Chicago, the Dublin Ohio Irish Festival, and the Festival Interceltique in Lorient, France. Patrick Murphy of Cork City, Ireland, is co-founder of Gaelic Storm with New Yorker Steve Wehmeyer. Vocalist Wehmeyer plays the digeridoo and bodhran and singer/songwriter Murphy plays piano, accordion, harmonica and spoons. Additional players include Ryan Lacey on percussion, Canadian Tom Brown on bagpipes, and Steve Twigger plays guitar, mandolin and bouzouki.
