"Eaten Alive" to be performed at UW-Stevens Point

Actress Eva Van Dok is scheduled to perform her one-woman play, "Eaten Alive," on Tuesday, February 24, at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

The play, focusing on eating disorders and weight obsession, will be held at 8 p.m. in the University Center Encore. Admission is $4 for the general public and free with a UWSP student ID.

"Eaten Alive" revolves around five different female characters, all played by Van Dok, each struggling with an eating disorder at a different stage in their life. It is intended to show the behaviors, thought processes and lifestyles of those living with eating disorders. The performance will be followed immediately by a "talk-back" session in which Van Dok will answer any questions the play might raise regarding eating disorders or her own struggle with anorexia/bulimia. This discussion also will be attended by a UWSP counselor to help people realize there will still be someone to talk to after Van Dok leaves.

Van Dok has spent the last eight years performing this play all over the world and it has been met with great critical acclaim. It has been nominated for the National Association for Campus Activities Lecture of the Year award.

Van Dok, who holds a BFA from the Goodman School of Drama in Chicago, has a strong personal connection to this play, as she is a recovered anorexic/bulimic. She is well known for founding Kaketeateret, a youth theatre company for young women in Drammen, Norway. While working there, she taught acting and improvisation in both English and Norwegian. She now calls New York City her home.
