McCalla to perform and speak at UW-Stevens Point
Singer-songwriter
and activist Deidre McCalla will present a lecture and performance at the
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Thursday, March 3.
The lecture will be held at 4 p.m. in the Heritage Room of the University Center (UC) , and McCalla will perform in the Encore of the University Center at 8 p.m. Admission to each event will be $4 for the general public and free with a UWSP ID. Both events are sponsored by Centertainment Productions.
McCalla is a well-known performer in both folk and womens music circles. She has four critically acclaimed albums to her credit and is in the process of releasing a fifth. Her music has been lauded as an exploration of the inner and outer experiences of life. Much of her work deals with the power and diversity of the human spirit. Though often away from her home in Atlanta, McCalla still finds time to home school her son. A single mother, she is a co-founder of Atlanta FamilyPride, an organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender families.
