Choirs to perform at UW-Stevens Point

The Women�s Choir, the Choral Union and the Concert Choir will perform at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday, March 6 and Sunday, March 7.

The Saturday performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday performance will begin at 3 p.m. in Michelsen Hall of the Fine Arts Center. The events are part of the Music Scholarship Series; admission is $6 for the general public, $3 for senior citizens, $2 for youth and free the day of the concert for students with UWSP IDs. Tickets are available at the UWSP Box Office, Room 103A University Center, 715-346-4100 or 800-838-3378, online at <https://tickets.uwsp.edu/Wt3/>, or at the door if the concert is not sold out in advance.

The two concerts will have the same program. The Women�s Choir will perform Emma Lou Diemer�s "Hope is the Thing - An Emily Dickinson Suite." The Choral Union will perform "i thank you God for most this amazing day" by Eric Whitacre, and "Three Choral Settings" from "Alice in Wonderland" by Irving Fine. The combined men of the Choral Union and the Concert Choir will perform "Think On Me" arranged by James Mulholland, and "Vive L�Amour," arranged by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw. The Concert Choir will close the concert with "Dulaman," a traditional Irish melody, "Five Flower Songs," by Benjamin Britten and Z. Randall Stroope�s "Amor De Mi Alma."

Lucinda Thayer, associate professor of music and director of choral activities at UWSP, will conduct all four groups. During her career, Thayer has worked with the Wausau Lyric Choir, the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra, the Springfield Symphony Chorus, the New Haven Chorale, and the Back Bay Chorale. She has also taught and conducted at Smith College, Mary Baldwin College, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Central Florida. Thayer is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, Wisconsin Music Educators Association, American Choral Directors Association, and the International Federation for Choral Music.
