Duo-piano recital at UW-Stevens Point

Guest Artists Nell Buchman and Linda Sparks will perform in a duo-piano recital at 5 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 15, at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

The performance in Michelsen Hall of the Fine Arts Center will be open to the public free of charge.

The program will include Muzio Clementi�s "Sonata in B-flat Major," Francis Poulenc�s "L�embarquement pour Cythere," "A Suite From the Cloud Rainforest" by Eric Ewazen, the "Minuet" and "Gavotte, Op. 65" by Camille Saint-Saens, "Hesitation-Tango" by Samuel Barber, "Habanera" by Maurice Ravel, "Dance of the Rose Maidens" by Aram Khatchaturian, "Romance, Op. 15" Anton Arensky, and Kriesler�s "Liebesfreud" arranged by Denes Agay.

Buchman, who has a private piano studio, coordinates a contemporary piano festival each year in addition to playing various solo and duo-piano performances. She holds a master�s of music in piano performance and pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma and has served as the piano department coordinator at the Lawrence University Academy of Music. During the 1999-2000 academic year, Buchman continued her piano education under the direction of Louis Nagel at the University of Michigan and upon her return played recital engagements in Stevens Point, Appleton and Waupaca.

Sparks, an Alabama native, is a well-known performer and teacher in the Fox Valley area. She holds a master�s of music in piano performance from the University of Alabama and prior to moving to Wisconsin, taught at Jacksonville State University, Alabama. In addition to private lessons, Sparks also has taught at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley and Lawrence Arts Academy.

As an accompanist for vocalists and instrumentalists, she has played on Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR) at the Elvejhem Museum, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, the Lawrence Conservatory of Music and the Neenah Library. She has also served as the music director for Attic Theatre and as an organist and choir director.

In their seven-year partnership, Buchman and Sparks have played much of the repertoire written for two pianos.
