Guest recital celebrates the seasons of Buenos Aires
Saxophonist Marco Albonetti and pianist Vicky Schaetzinger will perform a documentary recital, "The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires," at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Thursday, April 6.
The recital will be held in Michelsen Hall of the Noel Fine Arts Center beginning at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public free of charge. The event is sponsored in part by the UWSP Music Department and Delta Omicron.
The program will include four seasonal segments representative of fall, winter, spring and summer. The music featured in the recital was composed by Astor Piazzolla. The visual aspect of the performance was created by Fabrizio De Giuseppe and the entire event is produced by Teatro Filodrammatici of Milano.
Albonetti is one of Italys leading concert saxophonists, well known for performing both traditional and contemporary music. He has performed all over the world from the United States to China, South Africa to Finland. Albonetti has established himself as an innovator of instrumental technique and has commissioned and premiered pieces by a variety of well-known composers. He has taught at the Xian Conservatory of Music and the Nan Chang University in China; the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland; Bowling Green State University; Lawrence University; and the Flint Institute of Performing Arts. He currently serves as a professor at the Bari State Conservatory in Italy and as saxophonist for the famous Italian diva Milva. Albonetti spent time living in Buenos Aires and studying the music of Piazzolla.
Schaetzinger has also devoted a great deal of time to studying the music of Piazzolla. After graduating from the Civic School of Music in Milan, she served as the piano accompanist for the well known Teatro alla Scala di Milan. An active jazz and classical performer, Schaetzinger often performs with the TangoSeis ensemble. She has played recitals the world over, performing in many of Europes best known recital halls and music festivals. Since 1998, she has served as pianist for Milva.
