Renowned pianist to perform at UW-Stevens Point
World-renowned
pianist Christopher Taylor will perform at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens
Point, on Monday, March 1.
The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. in Michelsen Hall of the Fine Arts Center as a Fine Arts Attraction in the Performing Arts Series.
Tickets are $12 for the general public, $10 for senior citizens, $5 for youth and $3 for students with a UWSP ID. A minimal ticketing fee will be charged. Visa, Master Card and Discover cards are accepted. Tickets are available at the UWSP Box Office, Room 103A University Center, 715-346-4100 or 800-838-3378, online at https://tickets.uwsp.edu/Wt3/, or at the door if the concert is not sold out in advance. UWSP students will be admitted free on the day of the event if tickets remain.
In 1993 Taylor won the Bronze Medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition as the first American to reach the finals since 1981.
An assistant professor of piano at UW-Madison, he has performed as a soloist throughout the U.S. and in Europe, Asia and the Caribbean. He has appeared with numerous orchestras including the St. Louis, Atlanta and Houston symphonies, the National Symphony, the Boston Pops and the Seoul Philharmonic.
In 1990 he was one of the first four recipients of the Gilmore Young Artists Award, a scholarship for exceptionally promising pianists and took first prize in the William Kapell International Piano Competition, held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. In 1996 he joined a distinguished group of young musicians when he was honored with the Avery Fisher Career Grant.
In addition to performing, Taylor is interested in music theory, linguistics and composing and he has won several awards for his compositions. He graduated summa cum laude with a degree in mathematics from Harvard University and holds a master�s degree in music from New England Conservatory.
