Student awarded a fellowship

Clarinetist Megan Rew, Birnamwood, has been awarded a senior fellowship to attend the Art Of Wind Band Teaching Symposium, July 21 to 26, at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Competitors for admission to the program included university students through veteran teachers from throughout the country.

Rew, a 1998 graduate of Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School, is a senior majoring in instrumental music education at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

The workshop, "The Intersection of Artistry and Craft," will include sessions taught by nationally recognized artists, master teachers and music educators from the across the country. The week will include discussions, rehearsals and laboratory sessions. Students will examine the roles of conductor and music educator, explore new ways of approaching teaching, experiment with performance dynamics and movement, and exchange ideas with other music educators.
