Peavler to perform on Wisconsin Public Radio
Baritone Robert Peavler will perform "Embraceable You: A Festival Of American Songs" in a concert broadcast on Wisconsin Public Radio on Sunday, March 17.
The concert will be broadcast from 12:30 until 2 p.m. as part of the series "Sunday Afternoon Live from the Elvehjem." The concert will be heard on all Wisconsin Public Radio stations as well as on the Internet at www.wpr.org.
Peavler, assistant professor of music, teaches voice and opera at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He will be assisted by UWSP faculty members David Hastings on saxophone and Matt Buchman on piano. In addition, he will be accompanied by pianist Mindy Eschedor of MacPhail Center for the Arts in Minneapolis.
Peavler�s program will include "The Warmth of You" by Charles Young, UWSP associate professor of music. Young wrote the piece in 1989 and the lyrics were added by Michigan poet Kim Garcia. Young premiered the song at a recital at Westark College in Fort Smith, Arkansas in January 1990.
He also will perform "Somebody Loves Me" and "Embraceable You" by George Gershwin, "I Let A Song (Go Out of my Heart)" by Duke Ellington, "If You�ve Only Got a Moustache" by Stephen Foster, "An Old Song Re-sung" by Charles Griffes, "Sigh No More Ladies" by Virgil Thomson, "Politics" by John Duke, "Sure on this Shining Night" by Samuel Barber.
Also on the program will be "Three" by Paul Bowles, "Early in the Morning" by Ned Rorem, "The New River" and "The Last Reader" by Charles Ives, "Old American Songs" by Aaron Copland, "Lean Away," "At Howard Hawks� House" and "American Anthem" by Gene Scheer and "I Was There" by Lee Hoiby.
The Elvehjem Museum of Arts located on the campus of UW-Madison, presents a chamber concert each week co-sponsored by Wisconsin Public Radio. Wisconsin Public Radio FM stations carrying the concert include WERN, 88.7, Madison; WGTD, 91.1, Kenosha; WHND, 89.7, Sister Bay, Door County; WHRM, 90.9, Wausau; WHSA, 89.9, Brule, Superior; W284AN, 104.7, Ashland, Bayfield; WLSU, 88.9, La Crosse; WPNE, 89.3, Green Bay; WUEC, 89.7, Eau Claire; and WVSS, 90.7, Menomonie.
