UWSP celebrates National Red Hat Week
A luncheon and matinee celebrating National Red Hat Week is being offered by the Conservatory for Creative Expression at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The luncheon and matinee, "See How They Run," will be held at the Fanny Hill Bed and Breakfast and Dinner Theatre in Eau Claire on Wednesday, April 26, from 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. The event is open to the public and does not require membership in the Red Hat Society, a social organization for women of all walks of life.
"See How They Run," written by Phillip King, is a silly caper set in an English vicarage. This character driven play includes an American actor and actress, a cockney maid, an escaped prisoner, a tipsy spinster, a clergy man, an oblivious uncle and a dim-witted police sergeant. Near the shows end, there are four men claiming to be the vicar, a wife who seems to have no fewer than three husbands and a semicomatose woman in the closet.
The cost is $60 per person and includes the luncheon, matinee and transportation from UWSP to Fanny Hill and back. Participants are encouraged to wear red hats and purple attire. For more information, contact Kim OFlaherty or Jennifer Hess at (715) 346-3838 or (800) 898-9472, or online at www.uwsp.edu/conted/programs/conservatory.
The Conservatory for Creative Expression is part of the Continuing Education Office, the center of lifelong learning at UWSP. Continuing Education provides affordable, educational and enrichment opportunities in the arts for children and adults throughout central Wisconsin.
The Red Hat Society began when Sue Ellen Cooper of Fullerton, Calif., gave her friend a red hat and a copy of the poem "Warning" by Jenny Joseph as a birthday gift. Since then the group has become the fastest growing organization in the world. The societys purpose is to have fun, take a time-out from responsibilities and celebrate their members ages.
