WLC offers a writing class

A class for professional writing is being offered close to home by the Office of Continuing Education at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

A "Writing in Volunteer Agencies" workshop will be offered at the Wisconsin Learning Center (WLC) on Tuesday, Feb. 21, and Thursday Feb. 23, from 1-4 p.m. The cost is $129. The workshop is designed to improve an agencys image by improving the effectiveness of letters, proposals, brochures, e-mail messages, reports and other documents by making them clear, concise and portray a clear image of the writer and agency. Participants are asked to submit three or more samples of writing two weeks prior to the workshop.

The workshop will be taught by Dan Dieterich, professor of English at UWSP. He has worked as a communication specialist and a consultant for 28 years and co-founded organizations to promote writing and speaking skills such as the Central Wisconsin Writing Project and Student Business Writers Scholarships program. He also serves as an adviser to UWSPs Toastmasters International and Habitat for Humanity.

A native of Illinois, Dieterich earned his undergraduate and masters degrees from DePaul University and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Space is limited for many classes so early registration is recommended. For more information or registration, contact UWSP Continuing Education at (800) 898-9472 or (715) 346-3838, visit the office in Room 032 Old Main at UWSP, or go online at www.wlc.info/2006writingvolunteer.htm.

The WLC, located at 5501A Vern Holmes Dr. in the Portage County Business Park adjacent to Interstate 39 on Highway HH, is a partnership between UWSP and Mid-State Technical College. It offers the latest technology, experienced instructors and high quality, affordable classes. Customized WLC seminars are available also on a variety of subjects, including foreign language/culture, leadership development, and business writing to name a few, and may be conducted wherever and whenever the training is needed.
