Students recognized at Writers Workshop

High school juniors and seniors were recognized for excellence in writing at the 34th annual Writers Workshop held at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP).

Sponsored by the College of Letters and Science, the workshop seeks to recognize and encourage young writers through writing sessions, scholarships and achievement certificates. To qualify for the event, students must submit writing samples appropriate for one of the workshop categories: childrens writing, formal essay-environmental and political, familiar essay, poetry and short stories.

An awards ceremony honored the recipients of five $1,000 scholarships to attend UWSP, the alternate in each category and juniors who received "A" ratings for their writing. The writing samples were judged by UWSP faculty members. Workshop co-directors were Sarah Pogell and Patricia Gott, assistant professors of English.
