Student research presented at College of Natural Resources symposium event
An exhibit of research projects by natural resources students will be held in the College of Natural Resources (CNR) at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday, April 7.
The seventh annual event, the CNR Student Research Symposium 2006 will be held from noon until 4:30 p.m. on the first floor of the CNR Building. The event is open to the public free of charge and light refreshments will be available.
The symposium will include presentations of 32 research projects conducted by freshman through senior students under the guidance of faculty sponsors. There will be 20 poster displays and 12 oral presentations covering topics ranging from the identification of felines to home ranges of Blandings turtles to international projects with human dimensions. Oral presentations will be held in Rooms 120 and 170 of the CNR Building, located adjacent to the east lobby and west lobby.
Historically, the event has featured a high level of quality in undergraduate research, and this years symposium is characterized by some of the highest diversity of student interests, projects and topics, from traditional wildlife and fisheries projects to ecosystem restoration and international sustainable development projects. Nearly 300 students have presented their research at the symposium since its inception in 2000. Sarah Orlofske, a senior from Oak Creek majoring in wildlife and biology, is student chair of the event.
For more information about the symposium please contact Steve Menzel, CNR development and public relations coordinator, at (715) 346-2032 or smenzel@uwsp.edu.
