"Jane Deere" a workshop for farm and ranch women

The International Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) program continues to expand its fun and educational programming, this time through a project dubbed "Jane Deere."

Jane Deere is a workshop designed specifically for farm women to learn about wildlife and outdoor recreational skills in a relaxed atmosphere. The first of four pilot workshops held throughout the nation this year is scheduled for April 24-25 at the Wisconsin Lions Camp in Rosholt, Wisconsin.

Workshop classes are hands-on experiences in a variety of topics including wildlife ID and habitat, target shooting, archery, fly fishing, native plants and plant ID, birding, nature journaling, stream ecology and more. Evening programs include Benefits from the Farm Bill, Value-added agriculture and Agri-tourism.

By designing a workshop specifically for farm and ranch women, BOW gives this unique group an opportunity to become more aware of land stewardship issues, to learn in a supportive setting, and to interact with like-minded women. The workshop is open to anyone 18 and older, including those who may not be actively involved in agriculture, but are interested in natural resources.

"There is an esprit-de-corps that develops at BOW workshops," says International BOW assistant director Peggy Farrell. "Women have fun, encourage each other, and learn new ways to appreciate our natural resources."

This workshop is being offered in partnership with Wisconsin BOW, UWSP-College of Natural Resources, Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, and the Wisconsin Farm Service Agency.
