STV debuts new "reality" TV series

Student Television (STV) at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will debut "Behind the Scenes," a new documentary/reality television series, on Monday, February 2, at 10 p.m.

Airing on cable channel 10 in Stevens Point, "Behind the Scenes" follows preparation for STVs live news programs which originally aired last fall. Presented in black and white and wide screen, the half-hour series is a "fly-on-the-wall" perspective of the events that take place while preparing for a live news program. STV news producers Jill McKee, Kewaskum, and Miles Hofschulz, Wauwatosa, and production manager Jonathan Alden, McFarland, star in the series, which also features STV news anchors Ryan Gerlach, Kenosha, and Kim Schaefer, Madison, and a host of others.

Following the series debut, new episodes will air every Monday night at 10 p.m. for six weeks. On March 29, STV will debut the second series of "Behind the Scenes" which follows the production of UWSPs student newspaper, The Pointer, and also will run for six weeks.

"There are so many things that go on during the hours leading up to STVs live news program," states Bret Lemoine, Waukesha, who directed, edited and produced the series. "The amount of work that goes into a half-hour news program is mind boggling. I think Behind the Scenes shows viewers the effort the students at STV put into programming and provides an entertaining look into their personal and professional lives."

Lemoine added, "No one is safe from the cameras lens. No matter where they go, people are followed."

While labeled a "reality" series, Lemoine insists "Behind the Scenes" is really more of a character study.

"If you watch all six of the episodes, you certainly pick up on everyones personality and their motivations for their actions. There is definitely a payoff for the viewer by the end of the first season," he says. "By episode four, several characters lives change dramatically."

Lemoine is a junior at UWSP majoring in communication. In addition to his work on "Behind the Scenes," he also is STVs general manager. For more information on this series or any of STVs programs, visit the Web at www.uwsp.edu/stuorg/stv.

The STV studio is located on the first floor of the Communication Arts Building, with offices located in Room 118. Questions also can be directed to Lemoine via e-mail at blemo298@uwsp.edu.
