Students accepted for attendance at national research conference
Six students from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point have been accepted to make presentations at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research at UW-Whitewater on April 25-27.All who applied from UWSP were accepted, above last year�s national average of 63 percent acceptance of applicants. Each of the six received the Chancellor�s Excellence in Undergraduate Research and Creativity Award last fall.
Applicants were chosen based on the quality of abstracts that summarized their research. While at the conference, students will present their research in oral, poster or performance presentations.Participants are expected from over 300 colleges and universities, representing almost every state in the nation. The undergraduates are involved in scholarly and artistic activities representing a range of disciplines, including creative arts, mathematics, business, social science, humanities, physical and life sciences, natural resources and engineering.
Speakers at this year�s conference include acclaimed historian and author Stephen Ambrose, UW System President Katharine Lyall and CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Kweisi Mfume.
Since its inception in 1987, NCUR has become a major annual event drawing over 2,000 undergraduates, faculty, and administrators to hear and discuss undergraduate creative and scholarly work. In addition, NCUR presents an opportunity to hear nationally prominent speakers and to discuss educational policy, programs, and funding for undergraduate research.
