UWSP Jazz Fest 07
Jazz band Matt Wilsons Arts and Crafts will headline the Department of Musics 16th Annual Jazz Festival at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday, Feb. 2.
The group will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Michelsen Hall in the Noel Fine Arts Center. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and may be purchased through the University Box Office located at 200 Division Street or by calling (715) 346-4100 or (800) 838-3378.
Matt Wilsons Arts and Crafts features Wilson on drums, Terell Stafford on trumpet, Gary Versace on piano and organ and Dennis Irwin on bass. Wilson formed the group in 2000 and since then two critically acclaimed recordings have been released, "Arts and Crafts" in 2001 and "Wake Up! (To Whats Happening)" in 2004. Their third Palmetto recording will be released this month.
Voted one of the top acoustic jazz groups in the 2005 Downbeat Critics poll, Arts and Crafts has performed at Carnegie Hall, Chicago Symphony Hall and at the Newport and San Francisco jazz festivals as well as at numerous colleges, high schools and jazz clubs. The band completed a European tour last March and served as the artists-in-residence at the Juneau Alaska Jazz and Classics Festival in May. Arts and Crafts is also in demand for their educational workshops on a wide range of subjects for all age groups.
The Jazz Festival brings high school students to UWSP to visit the campus, participate in workshops and interact with college students.
