Informational sessions held on learning to fly
Ever thought about learning how to fly an airplane? Looking for information on making your dream of flight a reality?
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified flight instructor Gary Olsen is offering a free informational seminar on learning to fly at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, at Pegasus Aviation at the Stevens Point Airport.
Olsen will review the requirements for earning a pilot�s license, options for ground schools and flight instruction, how to use a pilot�s license, medical requirements, safety issues and other topics. Planes will also be on site for hands-on examination.
The free seminars will also be offered on the Saturdays of April 3 and May 1.
For those who want to earn their license, Olsen will instruct a "Private Pilot Ground School" from May 17-22 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and on June 5 and 12. This course includes the skills and knowledge needed to pass the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test, including airplane components, aerodynamics, flight instruments, federal aviation regulations, airport and radio operations navigation and flight planning, airspace and weather.
The course will include Rod Machado�s Private Pilot Handbook and Workbook, an E6-B flight computer and a sectional plotter for the three-credit undergraduate course fee of $530 or a non-credit fee of $375. This course will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Olsen has been an FAA certified flight instructor since 2002 and has been a pilot for 14 years. He is has been a professor of theatre at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point since 1985.
