Entrepreneurial training course offered in Wausau

Learn how to run a business from experts in financing, law, marketing and personnel through a weekly Entrepreneurial Training Course offered at Cedar Creek in Rothschild on Tuesdays, Feb. 10 - April 13, from 6-9 p.m.

Sponsored by the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and the Wausau/Marathon County Area Chamber of Commerce, the course will include information on planning and legal structure, business and market research, marketing, financial records and controls, financial planning and budgets, cash flow statements and alternative sources of funding. Students will be required to complete a business plan within 90 days of completing the course. SBDC counselors will be available to assist with the plan.

"The class was a great step-by-step way to understand and create your own business plan," said Teresa Prichard of Design Works Salon in Mosinee. "The benefits reach into every day operations of my business."

A subsidy from the Wisconsin Department of Commerce has reduced the $1,000 course to $250 per person for those who apply through the SBDC. The fee includes instruction, materials and refreshments.

For more information or to register for the course, contact Joan Ross at the SBDC, 715-346-3838 or 800-898-9472, or Sue Restum at the chamber, 715-845-6231. On the Web, see www.uwsp.edu/extension, click on "Browse Our Brochures" then "ETG."

The SBDC is facilitated by UWSP Extension, the center of continuing education and lifelong learning at UWSP. The organization provides credit classes, degree completion programs, conference planning, contract training and an array of personal and professional development programs for business and industry, youth, working adults and special audiences.
