Watercolors workshops held at UWSP

A series of workshops on watercolors for both beginning and experienced artists will be held at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point this winter and spring through the Continuing Education Arts and Culture Outreach program.

"Watercolor Wonders" offers three sessions held at the Noel Fine Arts Center on the Saturdays of January 26, February 23 and April 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $45 for each class or $120 for the three-class series.

The instructor, recent UWSP art and biology graduate Sarah Moldenhauer, has created illustrations for the Wisconsin Center of Environmental Education and Mead Wildlife Refuge. Her passion for the outdoors has inspired her art and she enjoys encouraging others to create art. Participants with all levels of experience are welcome.

The classes are as follows:

January 26: Techniques in Watercolors Discover watercolors and learn strategies such as brushwork control, creative paint applications, color mixing methods and tips for effective designs. Experiment and paint in a supportive environment and receive individual technical assistance.

February 16: Watercolor Flower Art Learn transforming techniques to create stunning compositions, heightened emotion and vibrant colors. Both traditional and experimental techniques will be covered as well as history and background of various flower artists, with a particular focus on Georgia OKeefe. Work from live flowers and discover your hidden abilities.

April 5: Artistic Nature Journal Use watercolors to create an appealing nature journal. Learn quick, effective ways to record visual information which later can be used for plant and animal identification, documentation of specific land formations or creations for pure enjoyment. Learn how basic shapes and brush work can capture nature in action. Painting time will be allowed with various natural samples provided for inspiration.
