Spring candlelight hike features “the frog choir” of
Schmeeckle Reserve
Students, friends and supporters are encouraged to join in the spring Schmeeckle Reserve
Candlelight Hike Festival to be held Saturday, April 25. Love will be in the air…literally…frog
love that is.
The festival will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Schmeeckle Reserve located at the northern
edge of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP). The spring sights and sounds of
various Wisconsin frogs will be the featured guests along the one-mile path lit with torches.
“The Frog Choir of Schmeeckle Reserve,” a fun and interactive program featuring frog sounds and
facts, will be presented at 7 and 8 p.m. at the campfire ring. The event is free of charge, but
donations are always appreciated.
Young and old alike will learn the about the life cycle of a frog with live specimens on site.
Kids can create their own pond dough and taste scrumptious snacks that even a frog would love.
There will also be a free door prize drawing.
Schmeeckle Reserve is one of four UWSP field stations. On the northern perimeter of the campus,
the reserve is approximately 275 acres. Not only is Schmeeckle an asset to the students, but to
the community as well. The reserve is deeply integrated into the academic mission within the
College of Natural Resources.
