Online communication courses offered at UWSP
Two online communication courses will be offered this summer at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens
Point (UWSP) through UWSP Continuing Education.
“COMM 273 Reasoning and Criticism,” and “COMM 390/590 Positive Change” will be held online from
June 15 – August 5. Both courses may be taken for three undergraduate credits for $711. “Positive
Change” is also available for three graduate credits for $1,131. Both courses will be taught by
UWSP Professor Bill Davidson.
“Reasoning and Criticism” is designed to enhance your ability to use reasons to support critical
judgments. It explores how we use words and images to create a symbolic reality. Students will
realize an awareness of the prominence of argument in daily lives, learn to apply analytical
methods to the assessment of arguments, and gain an understanding of how to respond to arguments
more effectively.
The focal point of “Positive Change” will be the interrelationship between individual and
organizational transformation. The course builds from Gandhi’s observation, "We must become
the change we want to see." It will focus on both the theory and the application of appreciative
inquiry in a myriad of contexts ranging from communities and schools to corporations and its
applicability to mental health.
