Late Night Bus service to begin in fall
The Stevens Point Common Council recently approved a proposal to move forward with
an after-hours bus service, expected to benefit UW-Stevens Point students and available
free to the public.
The Late Night Bus, approved by a referendum of the UWSP student body in March 2008,
will include routes that will run from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Monday through Saturday and is
expected to be in service beginning in the fall.
Before a large audience of student and community supporters, the council voted unanimously
to work with student government to move forward with the program.
The estimated cost is $2.44 per student, per semester. The total cost of the program is
about $84,000. State and federal grants will cover $54,000 of the costs. All students
and community members will be able to ride for free, no IDs required, which was an
action taken to specifically include the greater community.
