‘Kidz in Opera’ workshop offered at UWSP
A mini-workshop that will give youth in grades 5-7 the chance to rehearse and perform in an opera
is being offered through Continuing Education Arts and Cultural Outreach at the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
“Kidz in Opera” will be held Friday, July 24, from 10 a.m. until noon. The cost is $29 and registrations
will be accepted until Friday, June 19. Participants will be sent a practice CD three weeks before the
workshop to allow them to prepare by learning the children’s chorus from act one of the opera “Carmen.”
In this lively scene, street children pretend to be soldiers marching behind the guards as they prepare
to change shifts.
The workshop will include rehearsal during the first hour, staging during the second hour and will finish with a
performance at noon for friends and family.
Instructor Karen Zach has performed in recitals, choruses and operas such as “Don Giovanni,” “Alice and
Wonderland,” and “Dido and Aeneas” throughout California. She received her bachelor’s degree in vocal
performance from Dominican University of California and works as an administrator for UWSP Continuing
Education.
