Creative writing classes for youth and teens
Creative writing classes for youth and teens will be offered in July through the University of
Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP).
“Emerging Writers Workshop: Creative Writing” will be held the Monday evenings of July 13, 20 and 27
and August 3. Classes for ages 8-11 will be held from 5:45-6:45 p.m., and ages 12-17 will meet from 7-8 p.m.
Each class is $39.
Offered through UWSP Continuing Education Arts and Culture Outreach program, the classes will be led
by Erin Mueller, a UWSP student majoring in English with a minor in writing. Participants will explore
many genres of creative writing, including poetry, short fiction, memoir and creative nonfiction. Children
will compose stories and poems using the world around them for inspiration. Teens will develop their craft
through the study of literature and brainstorming.
“I want to give the creative writers a sample of the audience they are reaching in their writing,” says
Mueller. “I look forward to working with kids who are excited about writing and I’d love to help them
expand their horizons and skills.”
