Combined choirs to present spring concert
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Women’s Choir, Concert
Choir and Choral Union will present a spring concert on Thursday,
April 30.
The concert, part of the Music Department Scholarship Series, will
be held in Michelsen Hall at the Noel Fine Arts Center at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $7 for the public, $4 for senior citizens, $3 for youth
and free the day of the concert for students with a UWSP ID. Tickets
are available at the University Information and Tickets Office in
the Dreyfus University Center, or by calling 715-346-4100 or
800-838-3378. Visa, MasterCard or Discover are accepted. Tickets may
also be purchased at the door if seats are available.
James Carpenter will conduct the Women’s Choir and Lucinda Thayer,
professor of music and director of choral activities at UWSP, will
conduct the Concert Choir and Choral Union. Mary Ellen Mitchell of
Stevens Point will assist on piano.
The Women’s Choir will perform “Sound the Trumpet” by Henry Purcell,
“Four Arms, Two Necks, One Wreathing” by Thomas Weelkes, “He’s Gone
Away,” a traditional song arranged by Ron Nelson, “Pasaje” by
Vinicio Adames, and “A Girl’s Garden” by Randall Thompson.
The Concert Choir will perform Benjamin Britten’s “Five Flower
Songs” and “Twa Tanbou” by Sydney Guillaume. The men of the Concert
Choir and Choral Union will sing “Amor de mi alma” by Randall
Stroope.
The Choral Union will perform “Who’s Who in the Zoo” by Jean Berger,
“Va, pensiero” from “Nabucco” by Verdi, and the triumphal march
“Gloris
al Eggito” from “Aida.”
