Camp COFAC: Summer music and studio art
camps offered through UWSP
Weeklong summer music and studio art camps for students in grades
9-12 are available at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
(UWSP) through UWSP Continuing Education and the College of Fine
Arts and Communication (COFAC).
Camp COFAC offers a music camp from June 14-20 and a studio art camp
from June 21-27, with instruction from UWSP faculty and guest
artists. The music camp will also feature Africa West Percussion
Trio, artists in residence.
This year’s music camp has been redesigned to focus on
improvisation, innovation, self-expression, and self-discovery.
Instrumental and vocal campers will learn innovative techniques and
have several performance experiences, such as the unique opportunity
for all campers (regardless of instrument) to join small jazz
combos. The most popular features, such as concert band, choir, and
the jazz ensembles, will return.
The camp is designed to meet individual goals and interests. Campers
will participate in daily master classes, have lessons with music
professors (at no additional charge), and have afternoon practice
time to work on compositions and techniques. Campers will also have
the opportunity to work in a variety of chamber groups. Elective
workshops, such as Artists and Art in Society, will round out the
day. Evening activities will include collective composing, jam
sessions, a dance, and a student/faculty showcase. Participants will
perform in a final concert on Saturday, June 20.
The cost for music camp is $595 including classes, meals, lodging,
materials and evening social activities. A commuter option of $450
is also available (including lunches).
During the studio art camp, campers will work with university art
faculty and guest artists in daily studio workshops as well as an
optional evening life drawing workshop. Art campers will have five
full days of instruction as well as evening activities, including
open labs and social events. Studio classes will include glass
fusing and slumping, assemblage sculpture, photography and
Photoshop, mixed media painting and drawing, and design and screen
printing. A gallery exhibition of the campers’ work will be held on
Saturday, June 27.
The cost for studio art camp is $695 including all workshops,
supplies, meals, lodging, and evening social activities. A commuter
option of $550 is also available (including lunches).
Registration is now open for both camps, and early registration is
strongly advised. A limited number of scholarships from the
Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and COFAC are available
to qualified students. For more information or to register, contact
