Tanzania trip offered by UWSP Continuing Education
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) is offering a three-week study tour to
Tanzania over winter break.
The program will include a 10-day climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro followed by 10 days of safari
focused on wildlife viewing at Tarangire and Manyara National Parks and in the Serengeti
ecosystem (Ngorongoro Crater & Ndutu), meeting tribal people (Hadza bushmen) near Lake
Wyasi and studying various forest and resource management issues in nearby
areas.
The program is open to adults of all ages and will take place December 27 through January
18, 2010. The group will be led by Hans Schabel, UWSP emeritus professor and forest
biologist with training in wildlife management. He lived in Tanzania for three years
and has conducted 31 study-abroad programs, including six to East Africa. He received a
medal from the Jagiellonian University in Poland, the UWSP Service Award and a scholarship
award from the College of Natural Resources. He recently wrote a book on the “Forest
Insects of Tanzania.”
The estimated cost is $7,999, including round-trip airfare from Chicago, all lodging, group
transfers within Tanzania, most meals, guide and porter fees, visa and entrance fees and
instructional costs. There will also be a pre-tour orientation and post-tour follow-up.
Continuing education credits are available.

rigors of the trip. Space is limited, so early registration is strongly advised. For
