UWSP presents the Tournees French Film
Festival beginning Sept. 24
Michelle Slater, assistant professor of French at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP), has been selected to participate in the French American Cultural Exchange (FACE) French film grant program, the Tournées Film Festival, for the 2009-2010 academic year.
Slater received a FACE grant of $1,800 for DVD screenings of five contemporary French films at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The films with subtitles will be shown free to the public beginning Thursday, September 24, in Room 221 of the Noel Fine Arts Center. The fall schedule is:
Sept. 24: “Entre Les Murs” 8 p.m.
Oct. 1: “Les Chansons D ‘Amour” 7 p.m.
Oct. 8: “Roman De Gare” 7 p.m.
Oct. 15: “Il Y A Longtemps Que Je T’Aime” 7 p.m.
Oct. 29: “Les Amants Reguliers” 7 p.m.
The original concept of the program is to promote the creation of a French film series which might one day become self-sustaining, according to Slater. The Tournées Festival is made possible with the support of the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the Centre National de Cinématogrophie, The Florence Gould Foundation, the Grand Marnier Foundation, highbrow entertainment and the Franco-American Cultural Fund (Directors Guild of America, Motion Picture Association, SACEM and Writers Guild of America).
Slater is a new faculty member of the foreign languages department. She teaches French language, French literature, and comparative literature courses. She holds degrees from the University of Colorado, Dartmouth College and Johns Hopkins University.
