Shopping spree tomorrow in Wisconsin Rapids
to result in UWSP scholarship
A Wal-Mart shopping spree in Wisconsin Rapids on Wednesday, December
3, at 8 p.m., will result in scholarships for four students at the
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) through a promotion
sponsored by Rainbow Casino in Nekoosa. Last year the event generated
$9,000 in scholarships for UWSP.
Rainbow Casino will select three random winners at the casino tomorrow
and take them to Wal-Mart for an eight-minute shopping spree. A UWSP
student will assist one of the winners with the cart, and the total
value of the merchandise the team collects will be matched and distributed
in four scholarships for students in business, accounting, public administration
and computing at UWSP.
Scholarships will also be given to Mid-State Technical College students
through a match of the value of the merchandise collected by the other
shopping spree winner. A matching monetary donation will be made to the
American Diabetes Association research fund.
The promotion was created by Rainbow Casino administrator Sami Chambers
to help area students in business-related fields.
