UWSP’s ROTC commissioning ceremony Friday

Two students from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) ROTC program will be commissioned as officers on Friday, December 12. Curtis Zivicki of Stevens Point and Alexander Schumer of Necedah, both seniors in the College of Letters and Science, will be commissioned as Army Second Lieutenants.

Bob Tomlinson, vice chancellor for student affairs, will represent the university at the ceremony at 7 p.m. in the Founders Room at Old Main.

Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Patrick Rubel will be the guest speaker. Rubel first enlisted in the Wisconsin Army National Guard in 1977. After completing Officer Candidate School he was commissioned in August 1979. He went on to serve as commander of the 107th Maintenance Company during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm and retired as the state mobilization readiness officer in 2005.

Zivicki is a senior majoring in American studies with a minor in military ordnance. He will be serving on active duty at headquarters of the 4th Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division in Fort Bliss, Texas.

Schumer is a senior majoring in political science with a minor in military science. He will be serving with Bravo Battery 1-120th Field Artillery, Wisconsin Army National Guard, in Stevens Point.
