SBDC offers construction law workshop

A construction law workshop will be offered in Stevens Point in February through the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Designed to help people in the construction industry understand construction law in Wisconsin and how to work with attorneys, the workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on February 20, 2009, at the Wisconsin Learning Center in the Portage County Business Park.

Topics include the legal requirements of a valid contract, rights and liabilities of parties to a contract, procedures for obtaining enforceable liens, legally collecting debts, and remedies for breach of contract.

The instructor is Erv Steiner, a UW-Madison Law School graduate and practicing attorney with extensive experience in construction law. Steiner is also an associate professor in the College of Business at UW-Eau Claire, where he has taught business law since 1972.

The registration fee is $125 per person or $115 per person if three or more people from the same organization attend. The fee includes materials and refreshments. The deadline to register is February 12, 2009.
