Chancellor's Vision 2015

Established in 1894, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is a comprehensive regional university with approximately 8,400 undergraduate and 400 graduate students. The four academic colleges offer 95 program choices within 49 majors, plus 78 minors and 16 graduate programs. The picturesque campus includes the 275-acre Schmeeckle Reserve which enhances offerings of the College of Natural Resources, one of the largest undergraduate natural resources program in the country. Campus Description

  • Founded 1894.
  • 13 major academic and administrative buildings.
  • 14 residence halls and 3 residence centers.
  • The 400-acre campus includes a 275-acre nature preserve and 24-acre lake.
  • Three off-site state field stations:
    • College of Natural Resources' Central Wisconsin Environmental Station, Amherst Junction
    • College of Natural Resources' Treehaven, Tomahawk
    • College of Letters and Science's Northern Aquaculture Demonstration Facility, Red Cliff
  • Located midway between Milwaukee and Minneapolis at intersection of Interstate 39/Highway 51 and U.S. Highway 10.

Students (Fall 2006)

  • Enrollment: Total 8,823; men 4,059 and women 4,764.
  • 15 percent new freshmen in top 10 percent of their high school class.
  • Average freshman ACT score, 23; average high school GPA, 3.4.
  • Freshman retention rate, 76%.
  • Student/faculty ratio is 20 to 1.
  • Average lecture class size is 34.
  • 1,530 bachelor’s degrees and 154 master's degrees awarded in 2005-06.

Staff

  • 440 faculty and teaching academic staff; 78 percent of faculty and teaching academic staff have Ph.D. or terminal degree.
  • 290 non-teaching faculty and academic staff.
  • 370 classified support staff.

Academic Programs

  • Over 100 undergraduate program choices within 50 majors.
  • 75 minors.
  • 16 graduate programs including cooperative arrangements.
  • The School of Communicative Disorders has developed a joint Clinical Doctorate in Audiology (Au.D.) program with the UW-Madison Department of Communicative Disorders.
  • Collaborative Degree Program with UW Colleges in Marathon County, Marshfield and Marinette.
  • UWSP Extension credit and noncredit offerings.

International Programs

  • Ranked 17th nationally for sending students abroad
  • One out of 20 UWSP students studies abroad.
  • Semester abroad opportunities in Australia, Britain, France, Germany (Magdeburg or Munich), Hungary, Ireland, Poland, Spain and New Zealand.
  • Summer and interim programs in Austria, Belize, China, Costa Rica, Europe, Germany, Greenland, Guatemala, Italy, Japan, London, Mexico, Nicaragua, Poland, Scotland, Tanzania, Thailand and Tibet.

  • 63.7% of UWSP full-time undergraduates receive some form of aid (5,208 with some form of aid compared to 8,182 enrolled undergraduates
  • $37,297,739 (total dollars in all categories) was given in financial aid during the 2004-05 school year (summer through spring)
