Statement by the UWSP Student Government Association - May 14, 2008

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Student Government Association (SGA) has received and ruled on a complaint against Senator Roderick King.

The actions called for under this ruling were rejected by both Pointers for Life and Roderick King last week and proper constitutional procedure mandates that two full meetings must pass before taking action on any rejected ruling. Therefore, no action will be taken until September 2008 when the SGA Senate reconvenes. This was discussed at length on May 8, 2008, while in open session, and the process has the full support of both Roderick King and Pointers for Life President, Jackie Krzykowski.

UWSP SGA has a strong commitment to freedom of expression and fully supports the students and student organizations of this campus. With such a diverse campus and a very involved student population, SGA continues to encourage an atmosphere of understanding, emphasizing the paramount value of tolerance; actions to the contrary are unacceptable.

This matter has been taken quite seriously and has demanded a large amount of attention in the days since the initial incident and complaint. Allowing the constitutional process to take its course ensures that a full investigation takes place, maintains the integrity of the body, and affirms SGA’s dedication to accurate representation of the entire student body of UWSP.

This item will be on the agenda for discussion, debate, and action at the first meeting in the fall. Everyone is welcome to attend. SGA appreciates the continued support and faith of the UWSP students in their representative body.
