Attendance, Plagiarism, & Course Etiquette: |
Attendance:
Attendance and participation are critical to your comprehension of course concepts. In lecture, instructors will use audio-visual examples to further clarify concepts. Full attendance and active participation in all discussions and class activities is expected. Attendance will be recorded in discussion. Justification for excused absences must be given in writing to the instructor. Unexcused absences and tardy attendance may result in a grade reduction. All excused absences must be made-up by submitting all assignments.
Plagiarism:
Plagiarism of any type in your work is unacceptable -- consequences for plagiarism may range from an oral reprimand to expulsion from the University. According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, to "plagiarize" means 1) to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own, 2) to use (another's production) without crediting the source, 3) to commit literary theft, or 4) to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.
All work must be your own. When using other sources in your writing, be sure to credit those sources. Visit the UWSP library's Virtual Reference Desk at: http://library.uwsp.edu/vrd/citations.htm for the APA Style format to properly cite and acknowledge your resources.
Course Etiquette:
Course etiquette consists of proper, acceptable behavior within lecture and discussion, as well as the manner in which your written work is presented. It is a matter of respect for your peers, instructors, and professors.
Behavior that may be distracting and disrespectful, such as speaking out of turn, cell phones ringing in class, profanity, etc. may result in your being asked to leave the class. Written work presented in an improper manner may result in your having to rewrite the assignment.
