2004 Kohl Teacher Fellowship Program

Cynthia Byers, Stevens Point, a 1995 graduate of the Master of Science in Natural Resources Program for K-12 Teachers at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, was selected as a 2004 Kohl Teacher Fellowship recipient.  Cynthia teaches at the Rosholt Public Middle School, Rosholt, WI.

The Kohl Teacher Fellowship Program recognizes and supports teaching excellence and innovation.  The Kohl Educational Foundation supports teachers in pursuit of their unrealized goals for their classrooms or professional development.  One hundred teachers are selected each year to receive $ 1,000 grants from the Foundation.  Recipients are recognized at a Spring Banquet. 

It is not easy to obtain an award as prestigious as the Kohl Award. It takes a lot of hard work and determination. Nominees have to first be nominated by someone else to even be considered. Next, nominees have to answer a series of questions such as, "What is your personal educational philosophy?" and "Describe how you inspire your colleagues to learn and grow professionally." Finally letters of recommendations from people such as students and fellow teachers are needed that explain how the nominee meets the stated criteria of the fellowship program.
