Strategic Planning and Implementation
NRES 703 - Leadership Development in Natural Resources:
Strategic Planning and Implementation was developed by a
nationally-renowned expert and is available over the Internet;
therefore people across the country can enroll. The course will be
offered for two graduate credits, or as a non-credit workshop
option. The out-of-state tuition will be waived.
The “Leadership Development in Natural Resources: Strategic
Planning and Implementation” course will focus on strategic planning
issues, techniques, methods, and practical applications for the
working professional. The course is designed to assist environmental
educators and natural resource professionals in learning and
applying key elements of successful strategic planning. A variety of
strategic planning models will be examined using case studies,
activities and discussion board interactions. Emphasis will be
placed on managing the strategic planning process to build the
capacity of organizations to provide effective environmental
education programs. The course was developed as a cooperative effort
between the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UW-SP), the
Environmental Education and Training Partnership (EETAP) and
Treehaven Environmental
Learning Center.
The eight units in the course present a practical approach to
successful facilitation and implementation of a strategic planning
process. During the course, participants will learn about:
- The components of strategic planning
- The various strategic planning models
- Developing the strategic planning process
- Techniques and tools for strategic planning
- Writing the strategic plan
- Planning for success
A “Personal Coaching” component has been added to the course in
order to give course participants the opportunity to take advantage
of individual consultation time with the course instructor to
discuss specific issues or questions regarding strategic planning.
This course requires that you devote adequate time to
successfully complete the readings, assignments, and discussion
board interaction. You will need to spend an average of 3-5 hours
per week on this course in order to obtain a passing grade and
certificate of completion as a workshop participant. Those taking
the course for credit will need to devote approximately 5 hours per
week to be successful.
