The Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Patrick Miles recently named the four winners of their Wisconsin Young Composers Competition. All four of the composer winners were recent UW-Stevens Point alumni: Jennifer Bellmer (BM-2007), Joseph Stillwell (BA-2007), Justin Schwartz (BME-2007), Michael Anthony Wall (BM-2006). Each composer will have their works premiered by the Central Wisconsin Symphony on a subscription series concert in the 2008-09 season. Each winner received a prize of 500 dollars.
Three UW-Stevens Point students will have their original works performed in the upcoming weeks: Jennifer Bellmer and Andrew Mork will have their original works for Wind Ensemble premiered by the UW-Stevens Point Wind Ensemble under the direction of Brendan Caldwell on Friday, February 29th, 2008 at 7:30pm in Michelsen Hall. On Tuesday, March 4th, Sarah Porwoll will have her new concert band work premiered by the UW-Stevens Point Concert Band under the direction of Brendan Caldwell at 7:30pm in Michelsen Hall.
Dr. Charles Rochester Young recently had three of his original works published: LET THESE WORDS RING TRUE for narrator and concert band was published by Kalmus/LudwigMasters, WHERE THE WATERS GATHER for concert band and GALOP for concert band were both published by C. Alan Publications. Dr. Young also had his SONG OF THE LARK for flute and harp recorded by flutist Sandra Lunte on Centaur Records. His THREE SUMMER EVENINGS for woodwind quintet was also recently recorded by the Baylor Woodwind Quintet on Centaur Records.
