Click here for a little Nineteenth Century Musical Romanticism
You are listening to the
opening of Beethoven's famous Third Symphony, known as the Eroica Symphony.
While some feel that the true beginning of romantic music was still a few years
off when this piece was written, the Eroica contains the seeds of the Romantic
movement in music. In this class, you will learn about romanticism in the
nineteenth century and how music jumped on the romantic bandwagon. You'll also
learn about the other major influence on music of the nineteenth century,
Nationalism.
The nineteenth century was a time of individualism, and when we study music of this period, we tend to study it one composer at a time, rather than by genre. For a look at the course outline, click here.
