David Hastings training includes degrees in applied saxophone from Northwestern University with principal studies with Frederick Hemke. Additional study has been with Donald Sinta, Bunky Green, and James Hill.
Mr. Hastings ongoing development as a teacher has included participation as Wisconsin Scholar, numerous grants in support of his growth as a teacher, and recognition as a teacher including the first recipient of the Student Government Award for Outstanding Teaching.
His current sabbatical leave project includes ear training and musicianship study with Marianne Ploger, jazz improvisation study with David Berkman, and saxophone pedagogy and performance study with Eugene Rousseau.
Throughout his performance career, Mr. Hastings has presented concerts in numerous venues ranging from World Saxophone Congresses to High School and College guest- appearances. His work as a jazz musician has included performances with The Mathew Buchman Quartet and the Wisconsin Jazz Orchestra.
