Biography:

Brian Martz is Associate Professor of low brass instruments and musicianship (an expanded concept of music theory) at UWSP. He holds Bachelor and Master's degrees in Trombone Performance from the I.U. Jacobs School of Music, where he was also awarded Performer's Certificate.

He has performed as principal trombonist with the National Symphony Orchestra of PerĂº, in Lima, Peru, and with community orchestras in Indianapolis, Indiana, Bloomington, Indiana, and Wausau, Wisconsin. He is currently principal trombonist with the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra, located in Stevens Point. He has appeared as soloist with the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra and the Wausau Symphony and Symphsonic Band. Also an experienced jazz and commercial musician, Mr. Martz has toured nationally as lead trombonist with Henry Mancini, Johnny Mathis, Glen Campbell and others and was a successful freelance trombonist in the Indianapolis, Indiana area, playing shows and working in the commercial recording studios before moving to central Wisconsin.

Mr. Martz graduated from the teacher training program at the Alexander Alliance in Philadelphia and has been a certified teaching member of Alexander Technique International since 2006. He has presented introductory sessions in the Alexander Technique for the UWSP Music Department, the Stevens Point Area Music Teachers Association, UWSP's Aber Suzuki Center, the American Suzuki Institute in Stevens Point, the Intermountain Suzuki String Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the Chicago Suzuki Institute.
