Biography:
Andrea Splittberger-Rosen, a graduate of Michigan State University and the Eastman School of Music, has been Artist/Teacher of Clarinet at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point since 1984 and holds the rank of Professor. Dr. Rosen appears regularly on Wisconsin Public Radio and throughout the U. S. A. as a soloist and chamber musician, and is a well-respected clarinet instructor. She is a versatile performer who has received international acclaim as clarinetist of the Uwharrie Clarinet-Percussion Duo and as a scholar of this repertoire. The Duo made its New York debut in 1980; has performed recitals by invitation at numerous conferences and universities; and has commissioned and premiered compositions from around the world. Ms. Rosen performs on an array of clarinets. The basset horn, the 6-key/Classic Period clarinet, and the reed trio are her newest performance explorations.
Ms. Rosen’s primary teachers have been Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr, Keith Stein, Stanley Hasty, and Frank Ell. She has done postdoctoral sabbatical study with Eric Mandat and Donald Oehler. Her experience also includes membership in the American Wind Symphony, Santa Fe Opera, Pine Mountain Music Festival, Superior Festival, Central Wisconsin Symphony, Greensboro Symphony, and Lansing Symphony Orchestras as well as teaching positions at Alma College, Elon College, and Michigan State University.
Dr. Rosen’s UW-SP duties include teaching clarinet, single reeds class, and clarinet ensembles; observing student teachers; conducting the band for non-music majors; coordinating the woodwind area; and performing in Trio Canna and the Wisconsin Arts Quintet. She taught music theory for many years. A former Province President, she continues her active involvement in the Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity as adviser to the UW-SP chapter. Professor Rosen is an experienced teacher of clarinetists of all ages and levels.
