String students at UWSP are offered a diverse array of ensemble and performance opportunities. Ensembles range from small groups
(trio/quartet/etc.) to string chamber orchestra and full symphony orchestra. Additional opportunities to perform in the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra are also available.

Students are given numerous performance opportunities. These include: weekly recitals, string area studio classes, chamber concerts, and special events such as the annual UWSP Music Department Soire Musicale.

Many guest artists visit UWSP throughout the year to perform, give lectures, and present clinics. Students frequently have the chance to perform for these artists in master class settings.

A variety of courses in string pedagogy and Suzuki string pedagogy, as well as chamber music are available to meet students’ career goals. In addition to a wide range of course offerings, all string majors receive weekly lessons and regularly perform in weekly studio classes. These sessions provide an opportunity for informal performance and discussion on various performance practice topics. Students also have opportunities to learn about the Suzuki method through observation and practicum opportunities at the internationally recognized Aber Suzuki Center.
