About
Brendan Caldwell has served as Director of Bands at UWSP since 2006. In this role, he oversees the band area and conducts the UWSP Wind Ensemble and Concert Band. He also teaches classes in conducting, music education and co-directs the instrumental UWSP Apprentice Conducting Program. Prof. Caldwell’s research and scholarship explore personal and musical transformation through the spiritual practice of “Integrated Listening.” This unique approach to conducting pedagogy sets UWSP apart and is being modeled by other institutions across the country. Brendan’s degrees have come from Louisiana State University, the University of Colorado, and the University of Minnesota.
Brendan is also the founder and administrator of the UWSP “Courtyard Connections Forum.” A lecture series, modeled after the TED Talks, in which audiences gather once a semester to “awaken from the illusion of separateness” through presentations which discuss various areas of passion and scholarship. Through exploring seemingly disparate topics in a profound manner, audiences are encouraged to seek connections with their own discipline, personal life, and each other.
Brendan loves living in Stevens Point with his wife Luda and his cats Jonny Buddha-vich, and Rocky Racoonovich.
