Stacey Berk is Professor of Oboe and Music Theory at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where she was awarded the 2009 University Excellence in Teaching Award. She is an active recitalist, principal oboist with the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra and member of Trio Canna. She performed solo and chamber works at the 2009 International Double Reed Society Conference in Birmingham, England, and the 2007 IDRS Conference in Muncie, Indiana. She has performed as a concerto soloist with the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra, the UWSP Symphony and String Orchestras, the Marshfield Symphony and the Wausau Symphony. She has performed with Trio Canna on Wisconsin Public Radio's "Live from the Chazen" series and at schools and venues across the Midwest. She is also a guest clinician and performer at numerous schools and colleges
In addition to her current ensembles, Stacey Berk has performed with the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra, the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra, the Cedar Rapids Symphony and the U.S. Air Force Band of the West, among others. She was a founding member of the award-winning Polaris Wind Quintet and previously taught at Grinnell College, Drake University and Our Lady of the Lake University
Prof. Berk holds Master of Music degrees in Oboe Performance and Music Composition from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where she studied oboe with Nancy Ambrose King and Blaine Edlefsen. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Western Illinois University with degrees in Music Education, Oboe Performance and Music Composition. She was awarded the Western Illinois University School of Music Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2010. She also has studied various music topics with Alex Klein, Christian Schmitt, Keith Underwood, Marianne Ploger and Stephen Caplan in lessons and grant-awarded study.
Professor Berk is a member of the International Double Reed Society, National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors, ASCAP, the College Music Society and the Music Teachers National Association. She holds memership in honor societies Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Eta Sigma, and was inducted as a Friend of the Arts into Sigma Alpha Iota.
In addition to performing and teaching, Stacey Berk is an active composer. Her engaging works have been performed around the world, and she has received commissions from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Symphony Band, The Madera Trio, Wizards Double Reed Sonsort, the U.S. Air Force Band of Mid-America, Lake Park High School, Illinois, Westfield Community School, Illinois, the Midwest Double Reed Society, Drake University chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, Point Dance Ensemble and Polaris Wind Quintet. Most of her works are available through Cocobolo Music Press.
