Auditions

AUDITION DATES: February 7 and March 7, 2009 (scholarship & entrance) April 4, 2009 (entrance only) Optional cassette or CD audition for out of state applicants. Auditions are required for all incoming music majors and minors prior to admission to the Department of Music. Please see the Audition Information form for details. The following audition forms are required to secure your audition date:

  1. Applicant Audition Form
  2. Reference: High School Guidance or Principal Audition Form
  3. Reference: Music Teacher

Applicants are encouraged to audition early as studio availability may become limited. Forms must be completed and returned AT LEAST TWO WEEKS PRIOR to your audition date.

Your audition will make you eligible for scholarship consideration. Department of Music scholarships are usually restricted to music majors; however, occasionally exceptions are made.

Auditioning students should be prepared to demonstrate the technical skills applicable to their area of performance. Please see the Audition Preparation listing for details.

Accompaniment is optional for instrumentalists, but required for vocalists. Vocalists are encouraged to bring their own accompanist. Call our office at 715-346-3841 or e-mail Monica Anderson at moanders@uwsp.edu, if you need assistance.

Piano training is required of all music majors and minors. After your audition you will meet with the piano faculty to determine placement-with the exception of those auditioning on piano. Those without a piano background will be placed in beginning class piano. For those with piano ability, please be prepared to 1) perform a short prepared piece, 2) sight-read and 3) play major scales.

Applicants will be notified of their music admission status and of any scholarship offer made by the department within one month of the audition.

Warm-up rooms are available throughout the audition day.

A committee of music faculty will hear your audition.
